Wellbeing and Pastoral Support

At St Mary Queen of Martyrs, we believe that children learn best when they feel safe, valued, and understood. Academic progress and emotional well-being go hand in hand. Our dedicated pastoral care team ensures every child has the support, encouragement, and guidance they need to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
How We Support Our Pupils
-
Nurturing Environment: We foster a warm, inclusive school culture where kindness, empathy, and respect are at the heart of everything we do.
-
1:1 & Small Group Support: Dedicated pastoral leads offer tailored one-to-one check-ins, nurture groups, and social skills sessions for children experiencing times of change, anxiety, or emotional difficulty.
-
ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistants): Trained ELSA staff help children recognize, understand, and manage their feelings, building self-esteem and resilience.
-
Safe Spaces: Designated calm spaces throughout the school allow children time to decompress, regulate their emotions, and talk through their worries with a trusted adult.
-
Whole-School Wellbeing: Mental health and emotional literacy are woven into our daily curriculum, assemblies, and mindfulness activities.
Working Together with Families
Pastoral care does not end at the school gate. We work in close partnership with parents and carers to provide holistic support. Whether your family is navigating a major life transition, bereavement, or day-to-day challenges, our team is always available for an informal chat, guidance, or signposting to external support services.
